The new Sydney workplace for Sims Metal Management (Sims) in Goodman’s Connect Corporate Centre in Mascot was designed to foster an innovative culture and community, through encouraging departmental interaction. The brief was to create an environment that reinforced their credo of sustainability and corporate responsibility and that these activities are not pursued separately from core businesses. These concepts are fully integrated and deeply ingrained in their culture and IA have delivered an environment reflecting these values.

The new open plan and agile workplace allows for functionality for future growth of the company and for flexible work settings for their day-to-day activities. Collaborative neighborhoods have been created in a space flooded with natural light honoring Sims’ operational philosophy which revolves around the five principles of safety, health, environment, community and sustainability. The core of the Sims Metal Management recycling business ethos shines through, with sustainable products and materials incorporated into the design. Refined textures and natural tones have created a warm, yet professional atmosphere for the new home of Sims Metal Management.

Working collaboratively with Project Managers Mostyn Copper and the construction team at Intermain, IA where able to create the desired environment within a tight program and budget.

Sims have been a recycling company for nearly 100 years, with sustainability embedded into everything they do.
IA’s alignment with their values has created a workplace that reflects these goals of being the world’s safest and most responsible recycling company that insists on zero harm for employees and visitors to their facilities, being an exemplar member of the communities in which they operate and being responsible stewards of the environment.

Sims continue this mission with the recent announcement that they will enter the growing “waste-to-energy” industry, unveiling plans to build a series of plants around the world capable of turning the residue left from shredded cars into gas with its first facility created in Australia, co-located with one of its existing processing facilities.
